Derby Masterclass as Man United Defy City Despite 3 Offsides
Manchester United beat Manchester City 2-0 in the Premier League, debuting Carrick with a stunning victory amid 3 disallowed goals.

Manchester United edged out their city rivals Manchester City 2-0 in the opening match of the Premier League’s 22nd round. The victory came on the debut of United’s new manager Michael Carrick and was fully deserved based on their performance on the pitch.
United started strongly, sending the ball into City’s net twice during the first half, only for both goals to be chalked off for offsides. Amad Diallo and captain Bruno Fernandes both scored, with the Portuguese’s goal standing out for its skill as he deftly bypassed Gianluigi Donnarumma and a defender — however, the attack had started from an offside position.
The pace remained high after the break. Early on, Donnarumma made a sharp save from Diallo’s dangerous shot. Moments later, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo missed a good chance for the home side, but he redeemed himself in the 65th minute. Following a quick counterattack, Bruno Fernandes set Mbeumo free behind the defense and the striker calmly opened the scoring.
Ten minutes later, United sealed the win. Mateus Cunha delivered a cross from the left, and Patrick Dorgu outpaced City defenders to double the lead with a precise finish.
In the closing stages, United came close to a third. Diallo hit the post, and in added time Mason Mount scored into an empty net after another counterattack — but the goal was again ruled out for offside at the start of the move.
With this win, Manchester United climbed to fourth place with 35 points, at least temporarily. Manchester City remained second but are now six points behind leaders Arsenal and have played one more game. They also risk being overtaken by Aston Villa.
