Hugo Ekitike will be sidelined for the upcoming World Cup in 2026 after suffering a major injury. The Liverpool forward injured his right Achilles tendon in Wednesday’s game against Paris Saint-Germain, ruling him out for several weeks.

His manager, Arne Slot, spoke candidly about the seriousness of the situation following the match.

He has done himself a lot of damage. It's a pretty serious injury. I don't know if he will play again this season. It could be a serious injury, I cannot give more details.

While official confirmation is still awaited, reports from 'RMC Sport' have confirmed the rupture, indicating a lengthy recovery ahead for the French international.

This injury is a massive blow not only to Liverpool, who continue their push to secure Champions League qualification, but also to France’s national team. Didier Deschamps had counted on Ekitike as part of his squad for the World Cup, which is scheduled to begin in less than two months.
