I thought: this is the right place to become a better and more important player. This is such a big club, and the team won the Premier League last year. I had very good meetings with the coach before the transfer, and a few players also reached out to me. Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah wrote to me. They were not asking me to come, they just wanted to show me what Liverpool is about. Virgil said he would be happy if I came, and maybe I can help the team become even better than last season. These are the words you want to hear and that eventually help you make a decision. I’m still happy I made this choice, even though the start was not easy.

I was very happy and excited and wanted to succeed immediately. But that didn’t happen. I just had to be strong mentally and keep believing in myself that at some point everything would work out.
