Guardiola's mother died from the coronavirus

Manchester City made a statement that Pep Guardiola's mother has passed away after contracting the coronavirus.

Dolors Sala Carrió died at the age of 82.

The club announced the sad news via Twitter post stating: "The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep's mother Dolors Sala Carrió in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting coronavirus. She was 82 years old.

"Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends."

Last month the 49-year-old manager of Manchester City donated €1m to help with the fight against the virus.

The clubs also sent their condolences, Manchester United, City's rivals posted on Twitter: "Everyone at Manchester United is saddened to hear this terrible news. We send our heartfelt condolences to Pep and his family.”

Liverpool also posted: "Deepest condolences from everybody at Liverpool FC. Our thoughts are with Pep and his family at this time.

Everton also posted on Twitter: "Everyone at Everton sends their deepest condolences to Pep and his family at this terribly sad time."

Spain is in really tough situation as they are suffering one of the worst outbreaks in Europe. They have 135,000 confirmed cases of the virus and are second only after the United States, also there are 13,000 confirmed death cases, second only to Italy where there are 16,000 confirmed deaths.
