Luka Jovic with a broken leg

On Friday, the Spanish giants Real Madrid announced that Luka Jovic has broken a bone in his right foot.

The reports claim that the Serbian fractured his leg while he was in his home in Madrid as he returned from Serbia earlier this week to restart training with the team.

The young forward had a tough first season with the Los Blancos and the injury means that the former Eintracht Frankfurt player will most probably miss the rest of the season.

The club statement said: "After the tests carried out on our player Luka Jovic by the Real Madrid medical services, he has been diagnosed with an extra-articular fracture in the calcaneus bone of his right foot. Pending evolution."

From the club did not mention how long Jovic will be on the sidelines, but that kind of injury usually could take several months to recover.

The 22-year-old Serbian has struggled with play time under his new boss Zinedine Zidane as he had unconvincing performances. He made 15 LaLiga appearances and scores only two goals.

Luka Jovic also ran in a lot of trouble when he breached the lockdown in Serbia last month.

He then apologised on his Instagram account saying that he was not aware of how strict the rules are in Serbia and he was just going to the pharmacy, despite the reports claimed that he was going to his girlfriend's birthday.

However, LaLiga targets mid-June as a potential returning date for the competition, after the league was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Real Madrid still have chance for the title as they are just two points behind the first in the table Barcelona and there are still 11 rounds left for play.
