Real Madrid edged past Atletico Madrid 2-1 in the Supercopa de España semi-final and will meet Barcelona for the trophy.

Barcelona secured their spot in the final with a commanding 5-0 win over Athletic Bilbao. The final takes place on Sunday with no third-place match scheduled.

The match got off to a perfect start for Los Blancos. Federico Valverde stunned Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak with a direct free-kick in the second minute to make it 1-0. Atletico bounced back with energetic play and several dangerous attacks. By the 22nd minute, Giuliano Simeone nearly broke through one-on-one against Thibaut Courtois, and Real themselves missed chances to extend the lead through Rodrigo and Vinicius Junior.

Atletico created serious threats before halftime, but Courtois showed his class by saving shots from Alexander Sorloth and Alex Baena. The Scandinavian striker even missed a clear opportunity, failing to hit the target from close range.

After the break, Real took advantage of Atletico’s reshuffled lineup. In the 55th minute, Rodrigo doubled the lead following a slick individual move that began with a pass from Valverde. However, Los Blancos' joy was short-lived as Sorloth headed home a goal three minutes later, cutting the deficit to 2-1 after a Simeone cross.

In the final stage, Atletico pressed hard for an equalizer. Xabi Alonso responded by shuffling his defense, taking off both centre-backs and bringing on Chouameni and Alvaro Carreras. Real also had chances to seal the win, with Oblak denying Rodrigo once again in the 79th minute.

Tensions flared off the pitch too. Vinicius Junior picked up a yellow card shortly after being substituted following a verbal exchange with Diego Simeone. Atletico kept pressing until the end but solid defending and a late miss from Julian Alvarez in stoppage time preserved Real’s lead.

Real Madrid will now face Barcelona in the Super Cup final, setting up another classic showdown between the Spanish giants.
