Lukaku, who helped Napoli secure the Serie A title in the 2024-25 season, had a disappointing previous campaign marred by injuries, limiting him to just seven appearances across all competitions.
Still, he was called up to Belgium's national team, which reached the World Cup quarterfinals, where he scored three goals.
I want to thank the coach for his trust and belief in me as a person first of all, and also for my qualities as a footballer. I’m in good shape, 100% ready
— Romelu Lukaku
For me, this is also a bit of an emotional moment, because after many years, I’m returning to Turkey, where I lived as a young child, where I discovered the professional world as a young boy with my father

His father Roger played for Gençlerbirliği, adding to the emotional significance of the return.
"It will be a special and very emotional moment to return there. I’m very proud to be at Fenerbahçe," Lukaku said.
Last season, Fenerbahçe finished second in the league, narrowly missing out on the title to Galatasaray by three points. The club kicks off their new campaign against Gençlerbirliği on Saturday.
