Bruno Fernandes looks on with a concerned expression during a Manchester United match, reflecting the team's on-field struggles.

Manchester United’s FA Cup run ended abruptly after just one game, following a shock third-round defeat to Brighton.

Earlier this season, the Red Devils suffered a similar fate in the Carabao Cup, being knocked out by League Two side Grimsby Town.

With no involvement in European competitions, United’s 2025/26 campaign is now mathematically capped at a mere 40 matches in total.

According to Will Glens from The Athletic, this is the fewest games United have played in a single season since 1914/15 — excluding seasons disrupted by wars.
