Robert Lewandowski struck an equaliser against Copenhagen without wasting a moment celebrating. He immediately chased the ball, focused on driving his team back into the game. Unbeknownst to him then, he sealed a remarkable milestone—drawing level with Lionel Messi as the player who has scored against the highest number of different teams in Champions League history.

The Danish side marked his 40th different club to concede to him since his first UCL goal came against Olympiacos in 2011. Until now, Messi had stood alone at this record, but Lewandowski’s latest achievement sets him up to take sole command in the future.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who once held the record, finished his run facing 38 different opponents. While the Barcelona striker still lags behind both the Portuguese and Argentine in overall goals—by 33 and 22 respectively—this specific record now places him ahead.

Benfica is the side Lewandowski has dominated most, netting nine times across as many games. Following them is Red Star Belgrade, which has conceded seven goals from him in just three matches. Salzburg and Real Madrid are tied for third place, each letting in six goals from Lewandowski.

Making his debut against a Danish team in the Champions League, Lewandowski wasted no time finding the net against Copenhagen in their first meeting. Looking ahead to the round of 16, he has a chance to break the record and reach 41 different teams—assuming Barcelona avoid being paired with PSG. Among the potential next opponents, Lewandowski hasn't scored against Newcastle, Qarabag, or Monaco yet.
