After a tough spell for the German national team, the DFB has turned to Jurgen Klopp for a fresh start. The former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool manager, who has long dreamed of leading his country, will take charge for the next two major cycles – Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup – with the goal of bringing back Germany’s traditionally strong competitive spirit.
Klopp sealed his four-year contract Friday at the DFB headquarters in Frankfurt. His appointment officially begins on August 15, following Julian Nagelsmann’s exit right after Germany’s unexpected World Cup elimination by Paraguay.
A significant shake-up is expected behind the scenes as Klopp reunites with Peter Krawietz and Pepijn Lijnders, his trusted assistants from Liverpool. They will be joined by Sven Bender, who recently coached at Borussia Dortmund.

Klopp’s debut at the helm will come during the September international break, where Germany will face a demanding schedule:
- 24 September: Netherlands in Amsterdam
- 27 September: Greece at home in Augsburg
- 1 October: Serbia in Munich
- 4 October: Greece away in Thessaloniki
These matches will be crucial for Klopp to begin shaping the team and restoring Germany’s place among football’s elite.
