Victor Boniface will undergo knee surgery this Sunday and is expected to be out of action for several months, bringing an early end to his troubled loan spell at Werder Bremen.

The German club confirmed the operation will take place in Innsbruck, Austria. The decision came after medical teams from Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen agreed on the step, with Boniface also giving his consent following examinations on Friday.

We are glad to have a solution and that Victor will undergo surgery. This gives clarity to all parties.

Peter Niemeyer

Peter Niemeyer, the head of football at Bremen, added that although Boniface's contract remains valid, the club "does not expect Victor to play again for Werder" due to the lengthy rehabilitation ahead.

Boniface joined Bremen on the last day of the summer transfer window after a proposed move to AC Milan collapsed because he failed the medical tests. He featured in 11 games for Werder, starting only twice.

The German side is now looking for a new forward. Reports suggest they are interested in loaning Jovan Milosevic from Stuttgart.
