Manchester United’s management and interim head coach Michael Carrick will hold a crucial meeting this week to outline their approach to the January transfer window. Carrick is expected to have a significant say in any final decisions.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United will prioritize finding the "right opportunities" rather than rushing into deals. The club currently sits fifth in the Premier League amid a difficult season.

Carrick, 44, was appointed until the end of the campaign following the sacking of Rúben Amorim. He will help determine whether the club pursues short-term loan deals, targeted signings, or opts to remain largely inactive in the market.

The squad Carrick now leads has struggled with inconsistency, securing just one win in their last five games across all competitions. Earlier signals from Manchester United suggested they didn’t expect major incoming transfers due to a lack of accessible top targets. However, the upcoming talks may open the door for tactical reinforcements, especially after their Saturday derby win against Manchester City.

The club is expected to balance immediate needs with long-term planning, focusing on midfield and defense, all while navigating a limited financial framework under INEOS ownership.
