Manchester United have agreed to extend Odion Ighalo's current loan deal ant Old Trafford until January 2021.
Ighalo, former Watford forward, joined the Red Devils in the last day of the January transfer window, but since then the 30-year-old player has impressed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, scoring four times in eight appearances in all competitions.
The current deal of Ighalo was due to expire on May 31, which was supposed to be the end of 2019/20 season, meaning that the player had to return to his parent club Shanghai Shenhua in China.
However, Ighalo has agreed to a extension in the loan-deal with Manchester United, which will keep him at Old Trafford until January 2021.
The news were confirmed and Ighalo is registered in time for United’s first Premier League fixture since March 8.
However, the Nigerian will miss the rest of the CSL campaign which will resume in June.
Shanghai's original stance was that they would only agree to extend Ighalo's loan deal if an obligation to buy was incorporated into the deal, with the Nigerian likely to cost upwards of £20m.
However, the Chinese club softened their stance as Ighalo would be prevented from returning in time for the beginning of th season due to the border restrictions.
The 30-year-old had plenty of playtime just before the suspension of the season due to the coronavirus outbreak, as Marcus Rashford has been injured, but the Englishman has returned to training and is expected to lead United's attack when the season resumes.
This means that Ighalo might spend more time among the substitutes when the Premier League returns.
The English top-flight football is set to resume on June 17 and the Red Devils are expected to face Tottenham on either June 20 or 21.
