Manchester United could be without Patrick Dorgu for about 10 weeks because of a hamstring injury, according to journalist Laurie Whitwell.

The Denmark international suffered the injury during Sunday’s dramatic 3-2 victory away at Arsenal. Dorgu was hurt while sprinting after a long ball, in the same match where he lit things up with a spectacular second-half volley.

At first, there was optimism that the 21-year-old had only felt cramp. However, further checks and scans later confirmed a hamstring injury, and while the exact comeback date isn’t completely nailed down yet, the early expectation is a lengthy layoff.

Dorgu’s absence is a blow for United given his recent impact. He’s been one of their standout performers over the last few weeks, contributing five goal involvements across the club’s last seven Premier League matches.

Hamstring setback confirmed

Whitwell reports that the issue is expected to sideline Dorgu for around 10 weeks, following the injury he sustained in the second half of United’s win at the Emirates.

Since Michael Carrick stepped in as interim head coach, Dorgu has started both of Carrick’s first two matches — and found the net in each. Carrick has been using him as a left winger in a 4-2-3-1 setup, where Dorgu’s direct running and end product have been central to United’s attack.

If the estimated timeframe holds, Dorgu is set to miss a significant chunk of the run-in — potentially around eight of the next 15 Premier League fixtures — with a return possibly coming after March’s international break.

Other injury issues at Old Trafford

United are also still managing problems at the back. Centre-half Matthijs de Ligt remains unavailable after a back injury suffered in early December, leaving the squad stretched defensively as well as in wide areas.

Despite the knocks, United’s league form has been strong lately, with just one defeat in their last 11 Premier League games. Next up, they host Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday.
