Former Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen coach Chavi Alonso is increasingly likely to take charge of Chelsea starting this summer, according to British outlet The Times.

Negotiations over his appointment are reportedly moving in a positive direction, the tabloid adds.

At 44 years old, Alonso is emerging as the favorite to fill the role.

His most recent spell in management was tough, as he failed to receive the necessary time at Real Madrid and was ultimately dismissed after just seven months, cutting short a three-year deal.

The coach himself wants assurances that he will be given enough time before agreeing to take on this challenge.
