Sunday’s game at Old Trafford pits England’s two most successful clubs, both boasting 20 league titles, against one another. With both sides on course for Champions League football next season, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Manchester United currently sit third, holding a narrow three-point advantage over Liverpool, and with the top five securing Champions League spots, the battle is fierce.

Certainly one of my favourite games, without doubt it's a standout game.

The rivalry is steeped in history, drama, and passion, making it one of football’s biggest fixtures.

There's big games and big rivalries that we have with other teams, but certainly this one is right up there. The history, the ups and downs the past has produced in these types of games and the excitement and entertainment, and the emotion, which is a huge part of it. It makes it a really special game.

The turnaround these Red Devils have made since last season is clear. After finishing a dismal 15th, lagging 42 points behind Liverpool, improvement is evident.

I just think this probably shows the improvements of the group, really, and getting stronger.

Coming into this fixture, United are riding a wave of positive results and aiming higher.

And to be coming into this game in such a good position, on the back of good results, and trying to achieve and moving forward. So, fully aware of the situation in the league and how close it is between us. But that's not something, really, we've focused on going into this game. I think it's a one-off game.

The club also celebrated news on the player front as promising England international Kobbie Mainoo committed his future to United with a new five-year deal.

At just 21, Mainoo's fortunes have revived under Carrick after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim. His return has been pivotal in United’s recent resurgence.

He's done fantastic with it.

There's more to come, there's loads more to come. I keep saying that for some time because he's such a young man, but he's in a great spot at the moment.
