Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital after feeling unwell at Old Trafford just before the Premier League clash between his former club Manchester United and Liverpool on Sunday, reports the BBC.

The 84-year-old Scot, who managed the Red Devils for 27 seasons, was admitted as a precaution rather than due to an emergency.

Ferguson usually watches United games from the directors' box at the stadium. He suffered a serious brain hemorrhage in 2018 that left him in critical condition. Three years later, he spoke openly about his recovery.

On Sunday, Sir Alex was pictured with guests at Old Trafford only hours before the match, featuring two teams with 20 English league titles each.

Soon after, he was taken by ambulance from the stadium to a local hospital. Manchester United confirmed the legendary manager would be well enough to return home shortly.
