Manchester United edged Liverpool 3-2 in a dramatic Premier League clash at Old Trafford, securing a crucial win that puts them in third place and guarantees a spot in next season's Champions League.

The match also carried heavy emotions as legendary former United manager Alex Ferguson was hospitalized due to health issues just before kickoff.

The game kicked off with an early blow for the visitors. Mateusz Kunya opened the scoring in the sixth minute, setting the tone for a thrilling encounter. Only eight minutes later, Benjamin Sesko capitalized on a rare goalkeeper mistake to double United's lead. The goal was scrutinized for a potential handball by the Slovenian forward but was ultimately allowed.

Despite United's dominance, the Reds missed several opportunities to extend their lead before halftime. However, Liverpool responded strongly after the break. In the 47th minute, a misplaced pass from Amad Diallo found Dominic Szoboszlai, who pulled one back for the visitors.

Liverpool’s fightback continued as they leveled the score nine minutes later after goalkeeper Sene Lamens misplayed a pass in the box, allowing Cody Gakpo to score.

The winner for United came in the 77th minute, when Koby Mayne struck a precise shot into the bottom corner, sealing a dramatic 3-2 victory.

Currently, Manchester United hold 64 points in third place. Liverpool sit six points behind but remain close to securing Champions League qualification as well.

Later tonight, Aston Villa will host relegation-threatened Tottenham, while Manchester City face Everton on Monday.
