Belgium winger Jeremy Doku is experiencing a recurrence of the respiratory infection that first affected him during the team’s opening training session in Seattle.

Though he traveled with Belgium to Los Angeles for their second group game against Iran, Doku remained on the sidelines and missed training the day before this important fixture.

At a press conference, coach Rudi Garcia provided an update on the player’s condition:

The situation is clearly improving, but Jeremy was still bothered by this respiratory problem. He hasn’t been at his best since these issues appeared a few days ago.

According to reports from Le Soir, Belgium’s medical team is taking no chances with the Manchester City star. He is currently undergoing antibiotic treatment, with the hope that he will be fully fit to contend for a starting role next Saturday against New Zealand.

In the meantime, Garcia will need to adjust his attacking options as Belgium look to break down Iran’s defensive setup on Sunday.
