Cristiano Ronaldo has sparked speculation about retiring from football after suggesting that the upcoming year might be his last on the pitch.

The 41-year-old Portuguese captain is one of the sport’s most successful players, having won major trophies with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and his current club, Al-Nassr. He first broke into Sporting Lisbon’s first team back in 2002.

Despite winning five Ballon d’Or awards, a World Cup title has eluded him, as Portugal failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals.

"This is probably my last year in football and I want to leave a grand legacy" - Cristiano Ronaldo

Throughout a career spanning more than two decades, the striker has scored an incredible 976 goals for clubs and country.

He also opened up about life beyond football, explaining the challenges of filling the void the sport leaves behind.

"I have so many things to do that it’s hard to tell you just one. Since football can leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in different ways, not just one. Also, to have more fun, travel more, watch and play padel, which I really like, but also to keep enjoying what I have earned. After all, that’s 25 years full of sacrifices" - Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo will carry on playing for Saudi Professional League club Al-Nassr this season as he inches closer to reaching 1,000 career goals.
