Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first footballer in history to play 1300 matches at the highest level of professional football. The Portuguese superstar hit this remarkable milestone on December 27, during Al Nassr's 3-0 win over Al Ohod in the Saudi Professional League.

The 40-year-old striker added to his tally in the following match, a draw against Al Ettifaq, pushing his total to 1301 appearances. This record puts him ahead of the Brazilian goalkeeper Fábio from Fluminense, who had been the closest active player to this feat.

Ronaldo's record counts only official matches played at the top tier of men's football, excluding games in lower divisions. This achievement also makes him the first non-British player to reach such a landmark in football history.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner had already been the first player to surpass 1000, 1100, and 1200 matches. For context, the previous mark of 1200 appearances was set by Englishman Peter Shilton in 1991 and stood for 34 years before Ronaldo broke it.

His career spans stints at Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, Al Nassr, and a long tenure with the Portugal national team. Despite his age, Ronaldo continues to showcase impressive fitness and endurance, cementing his status as one of the greatest footballers ever.
