Barcelona claimed the Spanish Super Cup with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Real Madrid in the first El Clasico of 2026. The final took place at King Abdullah Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, delivering relentless action, chance-filled passages, and a high pace right up to the final whistle.

Real Madrid threatened early, nearly taking the lead in the 14th minute when Rodrigo set up Vinicius, who found himself one-on-one with Barcelona keeper Joan Garcia, only to be denied. Barcelona responded with a dangerous Rafinha shot in the 27th minute that Thibaut Courtois managed to punch away.

Defensive lapses haunted the Catalans again at 32 minutes, as Gonzalo Garcia broke alone but Joan Garcia stood firm once more. Shortly after, Fermín López and Rafinha both missed prime chances for Barcelona.

Pressure paid off in the 36th minute. López intercepted the ball in midfield and fed Rafinha, who advanced and fired a precise shot from the edge of the box to open the scoring. 1-0 to the Catalans.

Real Madrid equalized in the second minute of added time in the first half. Vinicius darted past Koundé and Cubarsi and this time calmly slotted the ball past Garcia. However, the king's joy was short-lived. Just two minutes later, Pedri released Robert Lewandowski, who chipped Courtois to restore Barcelona's lead at 2-1.

Real wasn't done yet though. Before halftime, after a corner scramble, Gonzalo Garcia delivered a beautiful lob to level the score once more at 2-2.

The second half kept up the intensity. Vinicius troubled Barcelona’s defense repeatedly, but Joan Garcia kept his side in the game with key saves. Tensions boiled over in the 57th minute after Raul Asensio’s harsh foul on Pedri sparked a mass confrontation and a flurry of yellow cards.

The turning point came in the 73rd minute. A slick move between Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres found Rafinha, who shot from distance. A deflection off Asensio redirected the ball past Courtois, sealing a 3-2 lead that Barcelona held onto until the end.

Near the final whistle, Barcelona was reduced to ten men when Frenkie de Jong received a straight red for a brutal tackle on Kylian Mbappé. Despite their numerical advantage, Real couldn’t find the equalizer. Marcus Rashford wasted a golden chance in stoppage time.
