Real Madrid’s winter transfer window turned out to be a total failure, according to The Athletic.

The club went through a turbulent January, struggling both on the pitch and in the market. Despite clear defensive problems and a noticeable lack of squad depth—evident in their recent disappointing results—the team remained surprisingly passive.

Not a single new player was brought in. Meanwhile, pressure on manager Xabi Alonso only increased, and he wasn’t given the opportunity to strengthen his squad before being dismissed.

Although there were signs of high-profile signings during the winter period, none materialized. Adding to their woes, the club blocked the loan move of Fran García to Bournemouth, a deal that had been agreed.

The only move Real Madrid made was loaning out Endrick to Lyon, missing a prime chance to bolster the squad during the crucial transfer window.
