Real Madrid Faces Decision on Next Captain Between Valverde and Vinícius Júnior

Real Madrid has yet to make a final decision on who will wear the captain’s armband next season, despite Federico Valverde being the natural successor according to the club’s long-standing tradition, Radio Estadio Noche reports.

Traditionally, the captain’s role goes to the player with the longest tenure in the first team. Valverde currently fits that profile as the next in line.

However, journalists Alberto Pereiro and Santi Segurola reveal there are some internal doubts about the Uruguayan midfielder’s leadership qualities within the club.

An important discussion on the matter is expected soon, with president Florentino Pérez still having some reservations despite Valverde’s respected status in the dressing room.

In the meantime, it’s said that Vinícius Júnior also harbors ambitions to become Real Madrid’s next captain. He’s reportedly shared this desire with the club’s management.

Real Madrid hasn’t officially announced who will take over the captaincy yet. The final decision is expected before the 2026/27 season kicks off.
