Arsenal finally victorious

Arsenal finally won their first game after the suspension of the season as they beat Southampton 2-0.

Mikel Arteta decided to left Matteo Guendouzi out of the squat for the game against Southampton on Thursday after the incident with Brighton's forward Neal Maupay.

Mesut Ozil is yet to start a game after the coronavirus as Mikel Arteta left him on the bench for today's fixture.

Arsenal had a golden opportunity to open the scoreline in the early stages of the game as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found himself 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper, but he hit the crossbar.

However, in the 20th minute, after a dreadful error from Alex McCarthy allowed Eddie Nketiah to tap the ball into the net.

Just before halftime, Nketiah had his second chance to double Arsenal advantage after a good ball from Nicolas Pepe, but the youngster shot the ball wide.

In the 54th minute, Emiliano Martinez passed a great ball to Aubameyang, who made an impressive first touch, but he could not manage to find a teammate as Southampton defender intercepted the pass.

In the 72nd minute, Redmond from Southampton had a chance to equalize the scoreline, but he was just not precise enough from the volley.

Emiliano Martinez came to the rescue in the 78th minute as he perfectly intervened when Long from Southampton tried to score from a narrow angle.

Southampton were down to ten players in the 84th minute, as Stephens was the last man in defence when he fouled Aubameyang.

Shortly after Southampton's dismissal, Joseph Willock scored the second goal of the game to make sure Arsenal close the game.

Mikel Arteta will breathe more easily after Arsenal won the much needed three points.
