Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has left the club, turning down a potential compensation payout of around £14 million following a serious dispute with the club's leadership.

According to journalist Martin Lipton, Maresca grew increasingly frustrated with how Chelsea's board undermined his authority, ultimately pushing him to agree to part ways. Officially, the departure was presented as a “mutual decision,” but in reality, it allowed the club to avoid paying the full severance stipulated in the Italian's contract.

Had Chelsea fired Maresca, he would have been entitled to compensation of about £14 million. Instead, both sides concluded that a mutual split was the best option, ending what was described as a tense and chaotic relationship.

For Chelsea, the move brought significant financial relief, as Maresca seemed just as eager to leave as the club was to offload him.
