Five positive cases of the COVID-19 among staff and players

Valencia centre-back Ezequiel Garay made a statement on Sunday that he has been infected with the coronavirus, which made him the first LaLiga Santander player to openly state that he has the virus.

However, on Sunday, Valencia released their official statement where they say that three of the players from the first team and two staff members had tested positive for the coronavirus. The other two infected players are also defenders - Eliaquim Mangala and left-back Jose Gaya.

The other two people infected with the virus are the club's matchday delegate, Paco Camarasa, and a member of the medical staff, Juan Aliaga.

All of the infected with the COVID-19 are now in their homes, isolated from the others. In the statement that Valencia made is said that all of them are 'in good health and obeying self-isolation measures.'

Ezequiel Garay posted on his Instagram profile that 2020 has started bad for him. He has been ruled out for the season because he got seriously injured - cruciate ligament tear.

"It's clear that 2020 has got off on the wrong foot," Garay said in his post.

"I have tested positive for the coronavirus; I feel very good and now I just have to listen to the health authorities.

"For the time being, I am isolated."

The entire Valencia squad and staff was tested for the COVID-19 a couple of days ago and as it turned out Garay is the first LaLiga player to have come back with a positive test.

Now everyone who had a close contact with him must remain in self-isolation to prevent the virus from spreading.
