Man United first bid for Barca ace failed

According to reports, Manchester United have failed in their first bid for Ansu Fati, as they tried to sign the Barcelona starlet.

The Red Devils are believed to have their attention on the 17-year-old player as they see a cheaper replacement for the Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

According to reports, United have made a shock £89m bid for Fati, but the Barcelona chiefs have turned it down.

It is believed that several Premier League clubs have their focus on the 17-year-old, whose playing time at Camp Nou has been limited since the Martin Braithwaite arrived in January.

With the return of Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele, Fati could spend even more time on the bench. If the signing of Inter star Lautaro Martinez comes true then the young international for Spain U21 will be sidelined for long.

However, Fati has enjoyed his time with Barcelona as he scored five goals in all competitions for the Catalans, who are two points ahead of Real Madrid.

In December, Fati signed a new three-year deal with Barcelona and they included a £144m release clause in the contract.

Earlier this season, Fati became the youngest goalscorer in the Champions League as he netted a goal against Inter when he was 17 years and 40 days.

The youngster still has to prove himself and work to fulfill his potential, and Barcelona boss Quique Setien is hoping that he could do that at Camp Nou.

“I think that Ansu is a boy that is emerging, that we all know that has great potential," said Satien after Fati’s first professional brace in a 2-1 win over Levante in February.

“You have to understand that you have to give him peace of mind and confidence to exploit what he has inside.

“Apart from the two goals, what I give credit is the work he has done in defence. He has worked hard. He has given us solutions.”
