Tottenham exited from the Champions League after a painful defeat with 3-0 (Agg: 4-0) on Tuesday against RB Leipzig, who reach the quarter-finals.
Spurs needed at least one goal to secure a place on the quarter-finals, but after the first half they needed three. Marcel Sabitzer made them suffer as he scored twice - the first one came in the 10th minute after a low effort from range and the second came in the 21st minute after a header in the near post.
Hugo Lloris is the one to blame as he was not at his best, because he could have saved both of the goals.
There is no Champions League miracle for Tottenham this season. Last season when they were under Pochettino they played very well and got lucky several times, but this time they barely had a clear chance to score against RB Leipzig.
The German side completely dominated the game in the both halves and made the defeat even more painful when the sub Emil Forsberg scored in the 87th minute.
Jose Mourinho hoped that his side will go further in the game, because he has not reached the Champions League last eight since 2013/2014 with Chelsea.
After what happened in Amsterdam last season and the heroic play from Spurs, anything was possible this time in Germany, but this time Tottenham were not that lucky.
Spurs were outplayed at the very beginning of the fixture. They were just not able to deal with the pace and the movement of the RB Leipzig players and they fell behind when Sabitzer scored the first goal of the game from 20 yards.
The visiting team had to react quickly to what happened because they were two goals down, but that left them vulnerable in defense and that led to the second goal of the match. Angelino, who is on loan from Man City, made a good cross and found Sabitzer who placed the ball right into the net after Lloris got a hand to it, but not strong enough.
Tottenham got one good chance to open the scoreline in the first half, when Giovani Lo Celso struck the ball from distance, but Peter Gulacsi kept it out.
Spurs struggle without two of their main players and it was obvious, Dele Alli played as striker again and he just made it perfectly clear that he is not good for that position. When Lucas Moura centered the ball for him he put it right into the gloves of Gulacsi.
However, the hosts sealed their win when Forsberg who came in as substitute scored from his first touch of the ball.
Tottenham season is in real danger. If Spurs lose against Manchester United on Sunday, they will be 10 points behind the fourth in the table with only eight games left to play.
That left us wonder when will be the next time they will hear the Champions League theme tune.
