Ethan Nwaneri has secured a loan move to French powerhouse Marseille for the remainder of the season after finding opportunities limited at Arsenal, who lead the Premier League and Champions League.

Last term, Nwaneri burst onto the scene with nine goals, earning him a fresh five-year contract at the Emirates. Yet this season, he hadn’t made a single Premier League start before heading to France.

Mikel Arteta explained the decision, highlighting the need for young talents like Nwaneri to gain regular playing time.

The talented young players that we have need minutes, and Ethan wasn't getting enough minutes,

The coach acknowledged the challenge ahead for Nwaneri stepping out of his comfort zone.

There is the fear and the insecurity of getting out of a place that has been really comfortable for him. At the end you have to be thrown to the sharks in an incredible football atmosphere and it's going to make him so good.

Arteta’s confidence in the loan move is partly inspired by William Saliba’s successful stint at Marseille, which paved the way for him to become a cornerstone in Arsenal’s defence. The presence of Roberto De Zerbi, known for nurturing young players and his bold style of play, also factored into the decision.

The last thing we want to do is cut his development because he's such a talent. He lives and breathes football. That's his life.

Mikel Arteta

Having all the options, and understanding the experience that we had in Marseille with William and the fact that Roberto is there, who is an incredible developer of young talent and the courageous way he plays, means it is going to be a great experience for Ethan.

Back in England, Arsenal prepare to host Manchester United at the Emirates as they push closer to ending a 22-year Premier League title drought. Arteta now faces a selection headache up front following goals from Gabriel Jesus and Viktor Gyokeres in their recent 3-1 Champions League win over Inter Milan.

Kai Havertz has mostly been sidelined by injury but is now fit enough to feature, though not yet to start.

With the amount of games that are coming up, they're all going to have opportunities and minutes, so it's great to have them back and especially to have them in good form.
