Juventus are still hunting for a new goalkeeper this summer, but their initial target, Martinez, seems to be slipping away.
The club had hoped negotiations for Martinez would smooth out after the World Cup ended, yet progress has stalled. By Wednesday evening, talks between the clubs hit a dead end. That setback has forced Juventus to ramp up their search for alternatives.
On July 6, it emerged that Juventus started considering Vicario as a strong candidate to fill the number one spot. Reliable sources in Turin now suggest that the club will make another approach regarding Vicario, frustrated by the deadlock over Martinez.
While Juventus still cling to the hope that Aston Villa might change their stance and let Martinez go, the signs aren't promising. As a result, the Old Lady could be ready to shift focus. Initial talks have already taken place about Vicario’s future at Tottenham, with the understanding that the Italian keeper is set to leave the Premier League this summer.
The next hurdle is agreeing on the financial terms and whether Tottenham would be open to a loan deal.
Juventus’ summer movement isn’t limited to goalkeepers, either. They are reportedly among several clubs interested in Chelsea winger Pedro Neto. Neto could follow in the footsteps of Alejandro Garnacho, who recently headed out to Aston Villa on loan, with an obligation to buy under certain conditions.
Garnacho’s departure reshaped Chelsea’s attack after the arrival of Morgan Rogers in a high-profile deal worth £117 million. Still, one more forward exit is expected before the window closes.
Neto is reportedly available if Chelsea receive an acceptable offer. Although there’s Premier League interest, including Tottenham’s past links, Juventus appear ready to position themselves as a strong destination for the winger.
