Messi might miss the return of the season

Barcelona's captain Lionel Messi missed group training session for second day in a row as he got a minor injury.

On Thursday the Argentinian stayed to workout in the gym and not with the rest of the squad as he got quadriceps injury and the club did not want to risk getting it worse.

The club released a statement on Messi's condition saying: "Barcelona captain Messi has a minor right quadriceps injury and trained in isolation, doing specific exercises to avoid unnecessary risks with just eight days remaining before Barcelona finally get back to playing matches.

"He should be able to rejoin his teammates in a few days' time."

However, the Catalans seems to remain relaxed on the condition of their main player and captain. The club believe that Lionel Messi will be ready to play at Son Moix in the first game back.

Barcelona are in a complicated situation as they are wary of the injury problems within their squad, with Samuel Umtiti, Ansu Fati and Monchu all struggling to recover their fitness levels and have been finding it difficult to get over their physical problems since the return to training.

Samuel Umtiti has made only 16 appearances for the club in all competitions this season as he had suffered from many injuries that kept him sidelined.

However, Quique Setien's side will have one training again on Saturday before they take a day off on Sunday.
