The current Premier League season is at the halfway stage and whilst there have been many talking points, here are some of the highlights so far:
The biggest talking point of the season so far has to be the dominance that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have shown in the Premier League. Currently five points clear of the nearest rivals Manchester City, the team now really has a chance of surprising all media pundits and experts and going all the way to the title. The battle of the Premier League will be a fascinating one but so far, Arsenal have answered all questions. Not since 2004 have the Gunners been in contention for the Premier League at this stage.
The arrival of Erik ten Hag to Manchester United has worked wonders for the team, the turnaround from only 12 months is remarkable. The style of play that the Dutch manager has imposed on the team in terms of pressing and imaginative play have resulted in the team now challenging for the title. The fans truly believe that the glory days can return with Manchester United ticket prices being at the highest in four seasons.
Whilst the transfer of Erling Haaland to Manchester City in the summer was expected to be a successful one, the former Borussia Dortmund striker looks set to smash all the goal-scoring records in the Premier League. The record for most goals scored in one season belongs to Mohammed Salah at 32 goals, Haaland is currently on an incredible 25 goals in just 19 EPL games. The Manchester City striker has already been touted as the Premier League player of the season, amazing considering there is still close to half the games remaining.
The Toon Army of Newcastle have been in full voice this season because of how the team has been transformed. Arguably the biggest turn around in the league, the team has gone from a lower/mid-table team to one that is now in the UEFA Champions League positions, top 4, of the Premier League. Whilst the transformation can be attributed to the takeover at the club, Eddie Howe has managed to sign players that have out performed anything that was expected. With one of the best defences in the league, if Newcastle sign a few more players in the transfer window, they could even challenge the teams above them for the title.
Whilst Everton have been experiencing several disappointing seasons, the fans didn’t envisage that they would be in a relegation battle. The departure of Frank Lampard due to 7 losses in the previous 9 games leaves the new manager with a task to keep them in the Premier League. With Everton being one of the oldest teams in the league and having one of the biggest fan bases in the country, relegation would be one of the biggest surprises of this already fascinating season.
This Premier League campaign is already unique because of the FIFA World Cup break mid-season, however some of the performances by the teams have been fascinating to see. Will Arsenal go all the way and beat Manchester City to the title, or will Manchester United cause an upset? What are your top moments of the Premier League season so far?
