Rodrygo will miss both of Real Madrid’s Champions League playoff matches against Benfica due to suspension, reports The Athletic.

The Brazilian forward has been banned for two games after insulting the referee during a heated moment.

Yesterday I let my emotions get the better of me in a tense moment while complaining about time-wasting. This behavior is not typical for me

He added an apology directed to the fans, club, teammates, and coach:

I've never been sent off while playing for Real Madrid, and I’m aware of the consequences. I apologize to the fans, the club, teammates, and the coach. We will continue to stand together and fight for this badge and the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham will also be unavailable for the tie due to an injury and won’t return until the end of March.

The first leg is set for Tuesday, February 17 in Lisbon, followed by the second leg on Wednesday, February 25 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Rodrygo’s red card came in the 2-4 loss to Benfica, a result that cost Real Madrid a top-eight spot and direct qualification to the Champions League round of 16.
