Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has been named in England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, replacing Tino Livramento, who was ruled out with an injury.

The Newcastle defender suffered a calf injury during Sunday’s training. Subsequent medical checks confirmed he won’t be fit in time for the tournament, an announcement officially made by the English Football Association.

The England manager Thomas Tuchel’s decision has sparked fresh debate. Once again, he overlooked Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, despite many expecting the full-back to be called up as Livramento’s replacement given their similar positions.

Under FIFA rules, national teams can make changes to their final squads due to injury up to 24 hours before their first World Cup match.

Tuchel instead opted for 26-year-old Chalobah, who is set to fly to the US shortly and join the ‘Three Lions' camp in Kansas City.

The newcomer won’t be available for England’s opening match against Croatia in Dallas, as the rest of the squad has already traveled to the city where the Group stage match will be played.
