David Luiz Arsenal

Luiz agent angry with the 'fake news'

The agent of the Arsenal defender, David Luiz has heavily criticized the 'fake news' addressed to his client, saying that the Brazilian is keen to stay for yet another year with the Gunners.

In the recent days, many reports claim that David Luiz is going to leave the north London club on a free transfer this summer, with the club keen to cut costs.

David Luiz signed just one-year deal with Arsenal wth the option to extend the contract when he joined them from their rivals Chelsea at the last day of the summer transfer window.

However, it was reported that the Gunners have not offered such an extension in the current deal of the Brazilian and the speculations around his departure started.

Many believe that the right move is Luiz to departure from the club as Arsenal legend Martin Keown even said that it would be for the best of both sides if the 33-year-old leave after a tough year.

However, Luiz's agent Kia Joorabchian insisted that all transfer talks have been put on hold during the coronavirus pandemic, including the talks over the extension of Luiz's contract.

Joorabchian insisted that the talks will be renewed as soon as the season restarts which is scheduled for June 17, but he says that his client is keen to stay at Arsenal.

“He has very much enjoyed his time there, especially since Mikel has arrived. It looks like they have a very clear plan on how they want to take the club to the next level.

“What’s happened is that David had a contract with Arsenal and during the pandemic there has been no discussions about contracts, renewals or anything.

“We haven’t discussed that contract and we always agreed that the most important thing at the moment is to get football back and finishing the current season, that is a very important step to stake as the first step.

“David signed a one-year contract with the option to extend and unfortunately the option to extend happened right in the middle of the pandemic.

“David has never said he doesn’t want to stay, or that he wants to leave, or anything.

“He took on the Arsenal project into his heart, he wants to go forward and he wants to win trophies, he doesn’t want to leave in a season where he has not won anything.”
