Before COVID-19 CIES estimated that the price of every player in the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 was €32.7 billion and after COVID-19 that price drop significantly and it is €23.4 billion.
The price for every player varies according to the age of the player, the length of his contract, career path and recent performance.
CIES used as example Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. The Frenchman is currently valued at €65 million, but is the 2019/20 season has been voided, his value will drop to €35m.
The clubs facing the biggest reduction in the value of their players are Marseille (-37.9%), Inter Milan (-35.7%) and Hellas Verona (-34.3%).
In Spain as it seems the most affected team will be Real Betis, as the players value will drop with 33 per cent.
At the moment the clubs are trying to come up with a solution on how to resume the current campaign.
Recent reports claim that the Premier League could look to send all clubs to isolated “World Cup-style” camps and play the remaining fixtures in a “TV mega event” over June and July.
However, if the season does not resume there will be a lot of financial problems for the clubs as they have to pay back money to TV broadcasters, and also there will be legal challenges from the clubs who won't be promoted.
