Manchester United have not triggered the one-year extension clause in Paul Pogba’s contract, despite his deal expiring next summer.
The 27-year-old World Cup winner had a frustrating season as he had suffered an ankle injury. The Frenchman managed to make only seven appearances for the Red Devils before going under surgery due to the injury.
Paul Pogba is expected to return to training right after the lockdown is lifted, but for now his long-term future to the club is still in doubts.
Pogba has one-year extension clause in his contract, but according to The Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are not interested in triggering that clause.
Recently, the Red Devils were in constant speculation that they will extend the Frenchman's current deal with 12-months, but apparently, the club has decided to try convince the player stay at Old Trafford.
However, Man United are fairly relaxed over the situation, given the player continues to remain a popular figure among his teammates at the club.
United still have the time to trigger the extension option in Pogba's contract and the earliest happened with Ander Herrera back in November 2017, whose clause was triggered seven months before the expiry of his deal.
The club might avoid the extension of Pogba's deal, but they need to manage to convince him to stay in the club. Pogba is not happy in Manchester and he wanted to leave last year, but the price United set for him was too high and no club made an offer for the Frenchman.
However, Real Madrid and Juventus are still the favorites to sign the player, as Zidane is looking to strengthen his midfield area as most of his players are over the age of 30.
