There have been some fascinating moves in the English Premier League across the summer. The transfer window is about to slam shut but we could yet see some big money switches across the division.
Manchester City and Chelsea have been the biggest spenders, signing Jack Grealish and Romelu Lukaku respectively. Those two transfers cost a combined fee approaching £200 million GBP while Manchester United’s dealings brought along a relative bargain.
Former attacker Cristiano Ronaldo is back at Old Trafford after spells at Real Madrid and Juventus. At £50 million, he’s a bargain buy, even though he’s now in the twilight stages of his career.
The big transfer deals will always take the headlines but one move that was set up across the English summer eventually failed to land. Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is the most prolific striker in the EPL and many feel he is the best goal scorer in world football.
Kane was widely linked with a move to champions Manchester City in preseason but City were unable to do a deal with Spurs who, not unsurprisingly, were unwilling to trade their best player.
Manchester City may come back to the attacker in the future but, for now, their loss is very much Tottenham’s gain. After three games of the 2021/22 Premier League season, Spurs are at the top of the table and they are the only side to have won all of their opening matches.
They may be top going into the first international break of the campaign but Spurs face a tough battle if they are to stay at the summit. According to premier league betting odds, Nuno Espirito Santo’s Tottenham are mere fifth favorites to lift the title at the end of the season.
They are a distant fifth too with defending champions Manchester City leading the way, followed by Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.
The Premier League winners market is a very fluid one and sportsbooks will continue to update the figures as they come in. Across a long season, there will be plenty of reading material too with news articles and opinion pieces to digest.
Anyone interested in taking things a little further can also register with any of that panel of recommendations. Many of the sites have welcome deals in place along with a choice of funding options and it may even be possible to live stream top football matches.
There’s not likely to be too much interest in a bet on Tottenham Hotspur but could Nuno Espirito Santo’s men be ready to spring a surprise?
Perhaps the most encouraging statistic for Spurs supporters to consider is the fact that the team has yet to concede a goal in three league matches. The Tottenham defense has been notoriously shaky in previous years but that’s an impressive record.
Spurs also overcame defending champions Manchester City on the opening day so it’s unlikely that the squad will be intimidated by any club moving forward. Up front, the restoration of Harry Kane to the starting line up will be a huge boost while Son Heung-Min has scored two of the club’s first three goals this season.
The manager may still look for attacking reinforcements before the transfer window closes. Tottenham have been linked with Wolves’ winger Adama Traore and he could be the man to supply Kane and Son moving forward.
It’s not impossible for Spurs to win the Premier League in 2021/22 but there are tougher challenges ahead. Chelsea look much more potent this year with the addition of Lukaku and the Champions League holders seem set for a tangible EPL challenge this time around.
Since losing to Spurs on the opening day, Manchester City have responded with back to back 5-0 wins over Norwich City and Arsenal respectively. If they can add a striker in either of the next two transfer windows, Pep Guardiola’s men could be on course for a successful defense.
The Cristiano Ronaldo factor at Manchester United could also see the Red Devils soar to that top spot before long.
